This identical dilemma recently hit Massachusetts, with the public hospitals experiencing a tremendous financial strain.Īs we increase coverage, we must strengthen our primary care network so patients have access to health care in the right setting. Once again, despairing patients will be forced to utilize hospital emergency departments. Initially, they will not have a primary care provider, lacking access to the best medical setting. ![]() ![]() In many cases, their delay in seeking treatment until the last possible moment worsens their condition.Īs we work towards expanding Medicaid coverage and establishing insurance exchanges, the uninsured will have a form of coverage not available before.
